Custom Built-in Desk

Transforming a kid's room into a functional yet fun space is one of our favorite challenges! For this project, we crafted a custom desk and storage solution that balances vibrant energy with clean functionality. Here’s a peek into how we brought this space to life, from concept to installation.

Before:

The room started as a blank canvas—just an empty wall waiting for a touch of personality and purpose. Our goal was to design a setup that would grow with the child, offering both ample storage and a creative workstation.

Design Vision:

The centerpiece of the design is a bold, bright yellow accent wall that adds a cheerful pop to the room. To balance this vibrancy, we chose a sleek white finish for the custom cabinetry and desk, covering the entire 10-foot width of the wall. We also included various elements to keep it practical and inspiring:

Full-width white plywood cabinets: Perfect for organizing toys, books, and other essentials.
Computer desk and decorative shelves: The desk doubles as a homework station, and the shelves showcase decorative items, each with soft LED backlighting to enhance the display.
Puzzle-piece design: We created CAD models to map out every detail and then cut the cabinet pieces using a CNC machine, ensuring each component fit seamlessly.

The Build Process:

After the CAD designs were finalized, we got to work with our CNC machine to cut the cabinet pieces with precision.

Once cut, the pieces were carefully assembled, painted, and prepared for installation. Every detail was considered:

Hidden wiring: To keep the look clean, we hid all the wires within the cabinets, allowing for a seamless and clutter-free appearance.
Full-extension drawer mechanisms: Each drawer was fitted with mechanisms that allow them to open fully, providing easy access and maximum storage.

The Final Result:

The finished space is as functional as it is fun. The yellow focal wall adds warmth and personality, while the clean white cabinetry keeps things organized and visually open. The LED-lit shelves add an extra dimension, creating a magical glow that’s perfect for displaying prized possessions.

This project transformed an ordinary wall into a multifunctional hub that inspires creativity and keeps everything in its place. The custom design ensures this desk and storage area will evolve with the child, making it a smart investment in both form and function.
